Vote YES on Ballot Measure 1 to Preserve Our Lands and Restore Our Waters

This Election Day, Southampton voters can take a huge step toward improving water quality and continuing to preserve special places such as Camp Tekakwitha on Great Peconic Bay. Since 1999, over 4,000 acres of farms and open space in Southampton have been preserved through the Community Preservation Fund. On November 8th, vote YES on Proposal 1 to extend the CPF to 2050 and authorize projects to stop the nitrogen pollution that threatens our health, economy and way of life. This measure does not increase taxes on local residents. It simply extends the existing tax paid by buyers of real estate. An amazing $652 million has been raised through this program to keep Southampton beautiful.

The Southampton Community Preservation Fund

  • Preserved 1,376 acres of farmland to keep our food local and sustainable, such as the oceanfront White family farm

  • Preserved 2,655 acres of open space including wetlands, woodlands, pine barrens, and waterfront parcels in all parts of the Town, from Hampton Bays to Flanders to North Haven

  • Helped preserved historic properties such as Madoo Conservancy

  • Will fund projects to reduce toxic algae in our ponds and bays such as nitrogen-reducing septic systems and permeable reactive barriers

Continue to protect Southampton's lands and waters. On November 8th, vote YES on Proposal 1.
