Vote YES on Ballot Measure 1 to Protect Our Lands and Waters

This Election Day, Riverhead voters can take a huge step toward improving water quality in the Peconic Estuary and continuing to preserve open space and farmland. Our bays, harbors and beaches make life on the East End unique. On November 8th, vote YES on Proposal 1 to extend the Community Preservation Fund to 2050 and authorize projects to reduce the nitrogen pollution that is fueling rust tides, killing our fish and interfering with our economy and way of life. This measure does not increase taxes on local residents. It simply extends the existing tax paid by buyers of real estate.

The Riverhead Community Preservation Fund

  • Preserved high priority projects such as the River Club with 1,200 feet of frontage on the Peconic River near Flanders Bay to reduce pollution to the Peconic Estuary
  • Converted former duck farms such as Hubbard Duck Farm into sustainable uses for the public
  • Created North Fork Preserve to protect wildlife habitat and wetlands, and create trails for the enjoyment of the public
  • Preserved family farms to keep our food local
  • Will improve water quality by funding projects to reduce nitrogen pollution such as advanced nitrogen-reducing septic systems to replace antiquated cesspools

Continue to protect Riverhead's lands and waters. On November 8th, vote YES on Proposal 1.
